Some of you might not know this blog was started at one of the lowest times in our lives.

My husband had lost his job and couldn’t find a new job. We had a toddler and a newborn. Our bank account was almost empty. We had just recently moved to Kansas City so we only knew a few families and were struggling to find friends and community — especially since our small church had folded soon after we moved there.

We felt alone, scared, and pretty hopeless. But I remember thinking, “I can’t give up! There has to be some other option than just giving up!”

So I asked myself, “What do I know? What am I good at? What can I do?”

I realized that I already knew about blogging since I had been blogging for two years. I also knew that I was good at saving money on groceries and that when I had blogged about money-saving tactics, people just ate it up. And I also knew it would be pretty simple to start a new blog about saving money on groceries.

So, out of that desperate place — and with these things in mind — December212012.info was born!

I had no idea that it would soon turn into our family’s full-time income, would open up doors I could have never dreamed of, would allow us to pay cash for a house, would give us the opportunity to bless and inspire millions of people around the globe, would literally take us around the globe to South Africa where we would fall madly in love with the work there, would provide the ability for us to give generously, and would allow Jesse to come home full-time.

I share this to encourage those of who might be feeling like you’re praying and things aren’t happening. I’d encourage you to ask, “What can I do? What resources do I have available that I can tap into? What do I already know? What am I already good at?”

Instead of waiting for some big thing to change in your life, what’s one tiny thing you can start doing today to begin heading in the direction you want to go?

“Do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are.”

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I have been saving a bit but I have decided for the next two years, my husband and I will sacrifice and become debt free. I truly believe, debt cannot be our bondage. We need to be in a place where we can bless others the same way God has blessed us. I pray God will give us wisdom during this journey. May God continue to bless you and your family!
