3 Books I Read This Week

On my book stack this week:

Finding Spiritual Whitespace — I’m only a little ways into this book, but it’s been so good. I think it’s another perfect book for me to be reading during this Year of Rest.

A Broken Kind of Beautiful — I loved a book I read recently by this same author, so I’m excited to dive into this one.

The Life-Giving Home + Companion Guide — I’ve read all of Sally Clarkson’s books and can’t WAIT to read this one!
3 Books I'm Reading This Week

3 Books I Read Last Week

Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis — I’m not sure what I think of this book. It was beautiful in some parts, very thought-provoking in some parts, and just plain weird in a lot of parts.

Rest Assured by Vicki Courtney — I really loved this book and have been scoping through it and sharing some of my very favorite quotes.

All She Ever Wanted by Lynn Austin — This wasn’t my top Lynn Austin novel, but I enjoyed it and found the parts on grief and loss to especially be insightful and help me better walk in the shoes of some people in my life who are really hurting right now.

This week I am reading Inside My Heart by Robin McGraw, The Genesis Question by Hugh Ross and just finished Stuart Little and starting Mary Poppins tonight (reading aloud to the kids). 🙂

  • Diane says:

I love Till We Have Faces.

I’m reading the Read Aloud Handbook, Caught up in a Story and Leisure the Basis for Culture.

  • Cristina says:

Thank you Crystal for asking Im reading the life of Catalina de Siena, a woman that was a saint living in the 13th century and starting creating a business plan for dummies, thanks.

  • I’m finishing up “All Natural*: *A Skeptic’s Quest for Health and Happiness in an Age of Ecological Anxiety” by Nathaneal Johnson.

SO good! Just the right balance of humorous, factual and though-provoking.

  • Rachel Wojo says:

I’ve been wanting to read Finding Spiritual Whitespace too!

  • Denise says:

Just finished A Season to Love by Nicole Deese. It was excellent! Review will be on my blog later this evening.

    • Jody says:

I LOVE Nicole Deese! I am starting A Season to Love tonight! Your comment makes me even more excited to read it :). I was plodding through a different book and not really enjoying it and finally gave myself permission to read the end and move on to Nicole’s book. I’m so excited to see another Nicole Deese fan!

      • Denise says:

yay! I hope you love it too! A Cliche Christmas was my first book by her and I loved both! Cannot wait to read more from her too! Speaking of her book I need to write my review! I’d love to hear what you think after you finish it!

  • Money Making Mom! 🙂 My husband is starting a business so I used a gift card to order your book. I started reading it and then told my husband that he should read it too! So, now I’m readying it out loud to him!

Thanks so much for writing it!

Right now I’m reading Jon Acuff’s book Do Over. He’s such a funny writer. Also just finished reading Caddie Woodlawn to the kids. What a great book! I teared up at the end when the dog came home and had to get my 11 yr old to read the last page. Ha!

  • Jody says:

I’m staring A Season to Love by Nicole Deese tonight and started Breaking Busy yesterday. I saw a comment a few weeks ago on one of your posts of someone recommending Spiritual Whitespace and I ordered it but it is taking what feels like forever to get here. I feel likes it’s the longest I’ve ever waited for a book but maybe it’s because I need to read Breaking Busy first 😊.

I really enjoyed A Broken Kind of Beautiful! Katie Ganshert is one of my very favorite authors. I always get so caught up in her books!

  • Tiffany says:

I am reading The Vow by Kim and Krickett Carpenter and reading again The Applause of Heaven by Max Lucado.

I tried to read Spiritual Whitespace and just couldn’t get it. It seemed to deep for me maybe. I do like reading the authors articles on Crosswalk.com though.

  • Toney says:

Hi! I LOVE to read. I just finished reading All She Ever Wanted…it was ok. I really like fiction books and series..so I’m looking for a good series…I do like mystery, romance, but not inappropriate or scary stuff….any suggestions?

    • Jody says:

I really enjoyed the Chop Chop series by LN Cronk! There’s 8 books and nothing inappropriate, and all were page turners for me. I like series too, it can be really hard to let go of characters sometimes!

  • The first time I read “Till We Have Faces”, I felt like I was running FACE-FIRST into a brick wall. There was something a huge SOMETHING there, but I knew I wasn’t getting it.

The second time I read it, I thought, “this is one of the best things I’ve ever read in my life.”

And I’ve read it again and again and again . . . it feels like the story gets bigger every time I read it.

  • Nancy says:

I’m listening to Gilead by Marilynne Robinson. Over halfway through and still not sure what I think about it.

  • Chelsey says:

Thanks to Crystals awesome recommendation of breaking busy. I decided to pick it up and read it myself. And although I’m not through it yet. I love it!!! So happy I decided to read it.

  • I am amazed that you find the time to read three books in a week. I love to read but certainly don’t finish anywhere near that many. Currently, I am reading”The Confident Woman” by Joyce Meyer and “Love Skip Jump” by Shelene Bryan.

  • Susan in St. Louis says:

I’ve read Til We Have Faces a time or two and always come away puzzled, feeling as if I don’t get all of it. I think if I were more familiar with mythology it would make more sense.

I’m reading: Joan of Arc by Mark Twain (just started), What Does the Bible Really Teach About Homosexuality, Mind to Mind (great!), Hearts of Fire, Hans Brinker or the Silver Skates (w/ the kids)…and perhaps another I can’t remember. 😉 I rarely finish a book within a week, though, but rather have them ongoing.

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the Sally Clarkson book/companion. I have them on my wishlist, but in the past I haven’t really gotten into Clarkson’s books.

  • layna says:

I would love to hear your reviews of the marriage books you have read! I’m tentative to pick up a book with the words “red hot” or something in the title 😉

  • Corie says:

This week, I’m reading “Comm Check….The Final Flight of Shuttle Columbia”. I’m loving it so far!

  • Robyn says:

I am reading Hands Free Life by Rachel Macy Stafford. It feels like it was written just for me. I am loving it so much that I ordered my own copy and will return the library copy so someone else can read it.

  • Tonya says:

Glad you’re enjoying Finding Spiritual Whitespace 🙂
