Sad to see Target will open on Thanksgiving.

Come on folk, lighten up. You have the choice whether you shop or not. My priority is family and counting all my blessings every day as well as on Thanksgiving, but it is also nice to know where the great deals will be for the season.

Employees don’t have the choice to work or not. So you wanting to go shop is wrecking someone else’s Thanksgiving.

      • Jessica says:

Honestly, you don’t know the whole story.

Maybe the employee needs to work that day in order to pay their bills.

Maybe they all don’t have a big, happy family or friends to spend their holiday with.

Condemning people for shopping on the holidays does not change the situation.

Thank you! I posted something similar to this on here a few days ago. It does suck that stores are choosing to open earlier and earlier, however, the fact is: its retail. One way or another, if you work retail, you will be working that weekend. If you don’t like the fact THAT much, then find a different job that will be closed that day. There are people who need all the hours they can get for regular bills, let alone Christmas. There are people who do not celebrate the holiday, or have anyone/where to go.
Also, I have many friends/family who work in various retail stores, and those that are opening early have almost always had a sign-up sheet for those people who would like to volunteer to come in early.
I agree with Jessica.. you don’t know the whole story all the time.

No, I doesn’t change the situation. And, unfortunately, it will only continue in this direction.

It seems that the corporate America is insinuating that they were just being nice before by giving the employees the day off. Now, money is so important that they are going to push and push until they are open all day on Thanksgiving. I have no doubts that someday in the near future stores will be open 365 days a year as well.

The sad thing is that this is about corporate greed. Money. I worked retail in an area that was hit very hard in the last recession (northern Indiana) and I would say only a third of the people I worked with were the type you are talking about. Everyone else had plenty of family, was trying to get other jobs at no avail, and HATED our company for opening so early.

I have slowed down my spending at a lot of these stores. I’m trying to support small businesses and keep my hard earned money out of these greedy corporations. Have a heart and help them!

I’ve been there. If Black Friday is not as successful as the previous year, they will change. But it’s going to take a lot of people with good hearts to help this out.

          Be kind!

Nurses, dr’s, emergengy workers, police…. Many people have to work a holiday.

  • Julie says:

To me it is less about whether or not I shop (I won’t on Thanksgiving) and more about the poor people who work retail that won’t get to have a day off to enjoy with their families.

    • Melissa says:

yep! My husband hasn’t been to Thanksgiving in 4 years now. It’s so sad that these CEOs choose to open yet they get to have off.
