Office Max: Get a Backpack for just $0.01 after MaxPerks Rewards (starts on July 28!)

I just got an email from Office Max saying that their very popular penny backpack offer is going to be coming back again starting July 28. Here’s what the email said:

From July 28 through August 3, shoppers can purchase a large variety of backpacks or messenger bags at any OfficeMax store or OfficeMax.com and receive the full value, minus one penny, back in MaxPerks Bonus Rewards for a future purchase*. It’s like getting a backpack for ONE PENNY!

Here’s how it works: Simply purchase a backpack or messenger bag at any OfficeMax store or OfficeMax.com, use your MaxPerks Bonus Rewards number (free to join) at checkout and receive the entire cost of the backpack, minus one penny, back in your rewards account. For example, if you purchase the OGIO Supersized Backpack for $49.99, you will receive $49.98 back in your OfficeMax Rewards account to use for a future purchase.

Yay! I’ll post again as soon as the deal is live or I get more details. But I just wanted to give you the heads up!

How long does it take to get the credit back?

Hi I do not have a MaxPerks Bonus Reward number, how long in advance do you need one to qualify for this promotion. And what can the rewards # be used on? Please & Thanks!

even if you sign up for the max perks card at the checkout, all those purchases will be credited that very day. i learned the hard way about points accruing over the whole calendar quarter, and then expiring after the following quarter if not used. So it’s like waiting up to 3 months for your free money and then getting having to buy something between months 3-6. I keep track of my progress on officemax.com/maxperks. i’ve had great experience with their customer service being very helpful in explaining things to me.

we saved up our printer cartridges too for a long time. then went in to the store on the 30th of the month to turn in 10 cartridges @$3 point equivalent, then went back on the 1st of the month (2 days later) to return another 10. then the third month on the 30th. the following quarter we earned 3 cartiridges x $3. we used that amount towards our first wireless printer. another way to strategize these max perk points.

another time I timed all our purchases and then got school supplies for 3 kids, free.

I love this deal. I do it every year to get my kids high quality backpacks that last all year instead of the cheap ones. Thank goodness my kids don’t mind these types of backpacks since you can’t get character type ones with this deal.

i am so glad to learn about this offer. my youngest has been using handme downs each year. now entering 7th grade, it’s time she got her own, new middle school pack. thanks msm.com

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up and for sharing the awesome deals!

Hi Sherry, you can sign up right before you make the purchase. You just need to have a max perks card # so the rewards can be deposited within a few weeks. I just started Max Perks last month and received my reward within 3 weeks.

This is awesome! I have been using maxperks to get $50 of free stuff every 3 months for about 3 years now! We almost never have to pay for office supplies. I got a great backpack the last time they had this offer. I use it all the time.

I guess if you shop at office max a lot than it would be worth it but unfortunately, I shop there maybe once a year, so it won’t be much benefit to me.

    • Crystal says:

You can use the MaxPerks rewards to buy printer ink or other things you were already planning to buy and it can be a great deal. But yes, definitely make sure that it’s a great deal for you and what you typically buy before jumping and purchasing it.

Is this 1 time per account? I have 4 kids and would love to do this.

  • Cheryl says:

How many times can you do this deal. Is it only once per rewards card?

  • Chelsea says:

Last year, we were able to purchase 2 backpacks on one account. We were pleased with the quality, but the particular bags we ordered took a *really* long time to ship out- maybe because they were popular with others as well? I think we ended up getting them in mid/late November. Because they took so long to ship, we didn’t receive any credit until late December. So even if it seems like it’s taking forever to get your bags and credited with your rewards, they will follow through eventually!

Last year , I got 2 nice, good quality backpacks. Free after rewards. It took about 6 months until the rewards went through. I used it all for printer ink , which we always need. It takes me a half hour to get there but it was definitely worth the trip and the wait for the rewards! Thanks for the heads up!

Can I use Max Perks Rewards and STILL earn the rewards back on that offer that earns additional rewards?

    • Sherri says:

Yes, it should work that way. Nice how that works out. I have been rolling my Max Perks Rewards for over a year.

  • Jennifer says:

Be on the lookout in your email!! I received a 20% off in store good for all next week and it includes backpacks!

Thank-you so much for the heads up on this deal!!! I ordered 2 of the “ful Sweet Melissa Daypack, Blue.” It says that you will get $39.98 back in MaxPerks Bonus Rewards. The backpacks were $39.99, but there was a $10 instant savings on each of them at checkout! So if I still get the full rewards back, I will actually have gotten PAID $20 for them! Plus, this particular backpack came filled with Crayola crayons, markers, colored pencils, regular pencils, glue sticks, erasers, folders, highlighters, and scissors!!! If this works out, I got the deal of the century 🙂 I’m hoping they’ll come in soon. I will donate whatever we don’t use to our church’s school supply drive for kids in need. Thanks, Crystal!!
