What do you use it for?

  • Jessica says:

We order by the 5 gallons 🙂 I keep hoping those sizes will have a great deal!! We use ours primarily in green smoothies to add a healthy fat. I hve recipes on my blog for those… We drink 3 a day.
I also use it in a lot of cooking and baking in place of other oils.

Are you able to order elsewhere for less?

    • Sarah says:

@Jessica, if you like to buy larger quantities, I’d recommend trying soaperschoice.com. I’ve called and talked to them and their coconut oil is food grade and they have organic and it’s the cheapest I’ve seen anywhere. Hope this helps!

I use it for cooking- frying and baking, and for skin care- a healthy moisturizer. It helps with acne too- trust me, its good stuff!

I just ordered some for .99 from Medco with their free offers. It was on sale for 9.19 or something like that.

I get this for $4 a jar through our co-op. Great stuff!

    • @Lerin, You can also order it off Vitacost.com for around $4 a jar…and if you go through Ebates—earn 5% back….and use the vitacost coupon code for free shipping (search on retailmenot for the latest one–i think it expires june 30th)

Vitacost has some great deals on organic coconut oil in smaller containers.

Coconut oil is great for soothing dry, chapped skin (even chapped lips). We use it all winter long to help with frost bite on hands. I also use it to rub into my iron pans as well as cook with. You can substitute it in recipes that call for oil or butter (I use it in my brownies or banana bread) Lots of good uses!!

Thanks! can’t wait to use it as I’ve been wanting to buy it for awhile. I’m going to use it as a diaper cream for my cloth diapers, to cook with and I’ve read it makes a good moisturiser. Also, I’m reading the book “real food for mother and baby” and recommends breastfeeding mom’s eat a spoonful a day for the lauric acid.

I like it in Chocolate Malt O Meal (hot breakfast cereal). I didn’t care for chocolate variety of Malt O Meal, but treated my children to it. I tried a Tablespoon or so of coconut oil to my bowl & now I like Chocolate Malt O Meal.
