I used the $2/2 coupon for Reach toothbrushes at Walgreen’s last week. Unfortunately, because the toothbrushes were on sale for less than $1 (two toothbrushes cost less than $2), the register would not accept the coupon, and the cashier made me purchase a candy bar to bring my before-tax total over $2. Then the coupon worked. This does not make sense to me, as a candy bar has nothing to do with a toothbrush (in the coupon sense ;)), and you would think that the coupon would only apply if the TOOTHBRUSHES were over $2. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any way around it? Having to spend an extra dollar to get the coupon to work defeated the purpose of getting them for free… more like BOGO with a candy bar thrown in!

    • Allison says:

@Amanda, As far as I can tell, it’s just the way their register system works. If you have other normal purchases, it’s nice because the overage applies to them. If you know you’re going to be a few cents short, look for something super-cheap, like a .12 pencil or something. You might also ask if the cashier can adjust the coupon amount down instead.

      • Emily says:

@Allison, The cashier didn’t force you to buy a candy bar–you could have bought something else.

The coupon did work for me at my Walgreens, but then I think I was buying something else anyway (not a candy bar, although that sounds really good right now!).

  • Heather says:

Amanda, I like your wags much better. Even though I had other items to buy without coupons and my total was over $2 I still wasnt allowed to use the toothbrush coupons.

    • Erin says:

@Heather, Me, too. The only way around it at my store would be buying three toothbrushes, using the Q, then voiding one of the toothbrushes off. Not worth it to me. With the demise of the Easy Saver program, I just shifted my business elsewhere. Too bad, because I really liked the merchandise mix. But I sure don’t miss their archaic registers or cashiers who don’t know how to run them!

  • Amanda H says:

The reach Brand toothbrushes are NOT on sale at our walgreens 🙁 darn it and they only sale them in packs of two.

  • Linda says:

I was informed when trying to use this coupon that ALL Walgreens no longer accept internet coupons. Period. I was less than perturbed :\ And yes, I have had the same issue with the “You have to spend some to save some” at Walgreens.

  • Brandee says:

When I tried to use them the other day the machine beeped because the total was 1.98 and so the coupon total was more. Even though I was buying other things to absorb the overage, they wouldn’t take the coupon.

  • Carrie says:

Sometimes when I click to get the coupon, I can’t ever find it on the site. Does that mean it’s just not available in my area? Thanks for all your help!

  • Amber says:

It must be a Wags “store specific” thing, because I have used other coupons there and created overage for my other purchases. I did the bengay and asprin just yesterday and not a beep…. maybe its this particular coupon too? It wouldnt work at Family Dollar for me, even though the toothbrushes were $1 each- it scanned and the register said “Item not found” and the caisher just said sorry it wont scan…

    • Danielle says:

@Amber, I had the same problem at family dollar but the cashier was able to put it in manually by taking a $1 off of each toothbrush. I have had that done for several different items I bought(or got for free) there.

    • Pat says:

I used the Bengay today, it definitely beeped and she entered the coupon for $4.99. The Bayer wouldn’t beep because it is only .99 after the Walgreens coupon.

  • Angela says:

I also was rejected at 2 different Walgreens for the Reach coupon. The odd part was she wouldn’t give me a reason for not accepting the coupon but took the Aquafresh internet coupon with no problem. I am pretty much done shopping there… is much to hit or miss for me.

Walgreens is seriously getting so frustrating!! It is starting to be an issue EVERY time I go there. I’m introducing a friend to the drug store game, and she is getting discouraged as every time she tries a beeps…and they won’t take it!! I’m really close to just forgetting Walgreens all together and doing all of my shopping at CVS instead. Plus, they are ALWAYS out of the free with register rewards products. It is almost like they do it on purpose!!

  • Autumn says:

Our Wags is very difficult as well. Sometimes if I know I will be in Reno I go their Wags and its night and day there. Friendly employees and manager and they go out of their way to help you actually find items and push coupons through. My local Wags now has a large sign in the front door saying MANAGER WANTED! Lol Ours wasn’t very nice at all so maybe things will turn around soon. 🙂

  • Pat says:

Some of the Walgreens won’t accept ANY coupons if they are over the price of the item, even by 1 penny. They don’t care if you buy something else (I always have other items, and it doesn’t make any difference). Others will adjust the coupon down, (which doesn’t make sense to me, but I’m glad they do) A few will push it through. I told them today I wish they would be consistent at all Walgreens. She told me “it’s the mangers that set the rules”.

  • isa says:

my walgreens wouldn’t take it either. I should have just gotten a third toothbrush and paid a $1 for three which would have made it 33cents for each, but I was so annoyed I just asked for my coupon back and left without buying anything. I agree with Courtney, Walgreens is becoming a chore. Much rather go to CVS.

  • Megan says:

That’s too bad that some of your coupons were not successful! I just used mine with no problem. It wouldn’t scan, but she entered the numbers manually and I did have another purchase so maybe that took care of the overage.

  • Tina B. says:

Stop & shop has them for $0.99 everyday 🙂

  • says:

So I went to the Walgreen’s and at first she wasn’t going to take the coupons. Then she decides it is ok and she rings up the four Reach toothbrushes, then she applies the coupons. The cashier then tells me I need to buy something else because it won’t cover the tax. What was up with that?? Does anybody know if this is right??

  • Laura says:

My Walgreens would not accept the reach coupons either because the coupon was worth more than the product, and I had other products, as well. I miss the EasySaver Rebates, esp. once they were redeemable online. I got frustrated with Walgreens never having their RR items in stock so I quit playing the Walgreens game…however I tried to start back this week after a 6-month hiatus and all their RR products were out and they would not accept my Reach coupons, so I’m quitting them again. 🙁

  • Wanda says:

I can’t seem to get to the coupon for the reach toothbrushes. When I click on it, it takes me to, but there is no coupon there for the toothbrushes. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I have looked under personal items, but nothing there, and I can’t find a search area where I can type in the toothbrushes.
